[Harp-L] technique
There are a lot of kinds of technique on the harmonica other than
speed in scales and arpeggios: articulation, tone, focus, phrasing,
projection, dynamics, rhythm to name a few.
Tonguing, corner switches, trill (button, left hand and pucker)
shakes, leaps, intervals and chords (including octaves, thirds, 4ths,
5ths, 6ths, octaves with the 3rd, 6ths with the third), corner
switching two notes on each side, leaps in one direction, switching
over corners, tonguing out of both corners, vibrato (hand, throat,
diaphragm, tongue) chord vamping, and sound effects - growls, wahs,
flutter tongue, uvular growl, Stevie pizz., singing through the
harmonica, etc.
There are of course different techniques for different genres, like
sight-reading or improvisation over chord changes for example. And
the integration of all these techniques is a technique in itself often
call music.
Harmonically yours,
Robert
