"how about mentioning the cost of admission to this event? It seems to be very reasonably priced for the instruction available, especially when compared to the other teaching events/camps available."
True ...hmmm yeah... but... well ....sure Iceman..it's always good to hear some controversy from you ha ha. Band camps are 'a way of life' in the U.S aren't they? Do you get cheerleaders attending them?
Basically however, I don't want to comment on other 'events' [I unfortunately can't afford anything too darn expensive. Frankly I'd rather buy an amp, a bullet mic or something else to tinker with].
Other harpl members may know more about what a 'buzz those other experiences' can be.
I play professionally over here and have been teaching students myself, for over 25 years now...
If I wanted instruction I'd be thinking of Modern Harmonica.com or subscribing to David Barretts harmonicamasterclass.com [which is obviously a really excellent website and seems great way of honing skills with his video's and backing tracks system].I've actually got James T. [ex Canned Heat] up the road if I want a session, for song. He teaches guitar and harp in a little music shop in Murwillumbar.
As for 'The Event'..check out: hillcountryharmonica.com which has all the details to this particular session, [if members don't already know]..??
As usual, in a spirit of generosity, passion and care, Adam Gussow has created The Hill Country Harmonica Homecoming weekend, [just up the road from RL Burnsides 'stomping grounds] and the registration is for only $150 USD. on May 22nd & 23rd.
I say "Thank God we've not turned the lowly art of blues harp playing into Californian style 'New Age therapy sessions' yet". I've always figured it was one of the few things left for 'low achiever's to enjoy.
Let the rich white Lawyers learn guitar posture and Tony Robbins keep the cash from his particular breed of evolving perfectionist. Isn't the price of a diatonica a 'pain in the butt' over here in Oz now?
You guys are lucky to have Musicians Friend and such a diversity of options.Including the Gurus of harmonica specialisation making or hot rodding instruments. It is far too costly to have a lowly 'U.S made 10 hole', Amplifier or such sent down here in the mail by some of the the makers.
At this excellent price to Gussows weekend I can afford to fly in from Australia to enjoy it, as Adam had stated on his You Tube clip a few months ago on :[Kudzrunner] [or find stuff on modernharmonica.com].
