Re: [Harp-L] ? When to use Blues Scale or Major Pentatonic ?

There's no definitive answer. This is artistic license. You decide. Each scale offers a type of flavor or color. Depending on what you wish to accomplish, you may choose one flavor or the other. You can even use both, or parts of both. Let your ear be your guide.

Remember, scales are just note choices. Eventually you may see both scales as strings of notes, like two pearl necklaces. Some of the pearls are identical, many are not. Now, cut the strings and choose from the loose pearls, putting together your own idea of what constitutes an interesting necklace.

Thanks to Harp-l and Michael Rubin, I now know the Major Pentatonic Scale.

My Question.

Given that the chords in a song are I-IV-V, when do you use the Blues Scale and
when do you use the Major Pentatonic???
