Re: [Harp-L] mic for acoustic playing

Hi, Mike

The Fireball has a really wonderful tone and would make a good mic if you ONLY intend to play in free air. If you intend to pick up the mic occasionally and cup it, you will get considerably more overdrive effect from the SM57 than you will from the Fireball. They're all pretty rugged - but the 57 and 58 are legendary in that regard.

Subject: [Harp-L] mic for acoustic playing

Quick question: when i occasionly play out it is with a mic stand through the P.A. Mostly old timey stuff and i need a new mic. Fireball V or a Shure 57 or 58 ? Overall ruggedness and tonal characteristics for this type of music are the main considerations. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
