[Harp-L] Keyboard / Monitor Amps / Mackie SRM-150
I noticed many of you have been asking about small keyboard amps to monitor yourself and for effects, and etc. I can heartily recommend the Mackie SRM-150. It is a lunch-box sized, 150-watt, three channel (one RCA, two Neutrik combo xlr/"1/4") that is stand-mounteable (although you NEED a tri-pod stand, because of the awkward tilt of the thing when mounted!)
I use it to listen to Youtube videos and have run a Commander through it ... killer! The other night I was sitting-in and had my 'Zoo with a line-out. Well ... there were no open channels in the P.A.; so I pulled this little thing out and got GREAT sound, fast! Channel #1 has a button to allow for Direct input of guitars, and etc. I usually use one channel for a line-out from the 'Zoo and put an Audix i-5 mic in the other one, for a fat sound. If I'm singing, I just use the line input. It doubles as a stage monitor, with FLAT Line, or Mic out to the board. There is also a separate input, for when you just want to HEAR the mix. I have also used it quite effectively with my Raven mic, for Chrom and with jazz, reggae, and etc. Best part? They retail new for under $300.00.
I have owned their SRM-350 speakers as well, but this thing is what you want! I don't know how well it would handle double octaves ... but it has always put out REMARKABLE range for me. The sweepable three-band EQ allows you to dial-in the sweet spot ... BUT! The EQ settings you HEAR aren't applied to the signal out. It is flat, to avoid pissing-off the Sound guy! The merits of THAT are debatable, but the SRM series by Mackie is VERY harp friendly, in my experience. I WISH I still had my Sonny Junior 2, with the six eights, and a line-out to the SRM-350 ... sigh! I used to knock eggs out of the ovaries of audience of concert-goers with THAT rig!
Peace, Love and TONE!
