HI,
If you're changing power tubes or rectifier tubes, rebiasing the amp is an absolute necessity or you'll do very serious damage to the amp and blow the tubes out very quickly. I would instead change the first preamp tube from a 12AX7 to a 12AY7, which would be the original first preamp tube on a real 4-10 Bassman, which I own, and then turn the treble totally off, run the mid about 2-4, the bass at 6 and no higher than 8, and the presence at 8, and the volume control in the channel that you're NOT plugged into no higher than 6,depending on what mic you're using.

my buddy plays lead guitar thru a 59 bassman ri, and was wondering about swapping the two 6L6's for 6V6's to get more crunch. Is this feasible--does it require rebiasing or is there another route he should explore? Harp content: I've been trying to play harp for over forty years now--very sad. Thanks in advance!!
Ricki
