I had the good fortune to attend Brendan's clinic at Music Village in  
San Jose, CA while I was out west last month (thanks to Brendan for  
sharing his skills, and thanks to Music Village for hosting!). It was  
a 70 mile drive each way, and well worth it. As much a free concert as  
it was a clinic. Brendan is a humble and personable entertainer,  
shares what he's learned in a very accessible way; and is willing to  
share the stage. Andy Just and Kimya Pollard were there also and we  
were treated to a great jam. If you have a chance to attend one of  
these clinics while he's in the states, don't miss it. And buy  
something at the music store hosting the clinic, let them know it's  
worth doing (and worth stocking harps), and keep Brendan coming back  
to the U.S.A.

I wanted to try a Suzuki harp; I know they're available online, but  
wanted to actually touch one first, and had asked quite a few stores  
about them, but none new how to get them (many stores can't think  
outside the catalog under the counter...). Frustrated, I decided to  
call Suzuki myself. One trip to Google and I was on the phone with  
Suzuki in San Diego, and the next day I was sitting in the front row  
watching Brendan Power, holding a few newly purchased Manjis. What I  
don't get is why Suzuki is absent from the common musical supply  
catalogs that retail stores rely on.
