I took weekly lessons for a couple of years from a pro player. I paid a month in advance and got a discount that amounted to a free lesson/month. These were 1 hour lessons and I was able to digitally record them to review in my practice sessions during the week. I suppose that if you are completely focused and have a very organized teacher you could probably get through the work in a half-hour, but the real value of the 1 hour lessons for me weren't always the techniques, but rather the inside pro scoop on song approach, the appropriate use of techniques, equipment choices, playing styles for genres, overcoming nerves, how to be/act in a band etc., that came in the unhurried conversations between the technical content. 

Just sayin', the second half hour was worth much more to my development than the first half hour.

This often depends on the finances of the student. Not everyone can afford the hour.
