Dear Reeders;
I've been 'offlist' for, I dunno, a year or
two. I decided to mind my own opinions for a while until I could
actually post some hard evidence (ie playing)
Well, the fabulous session hasn't actually
taken place yet (I'm getting there though)
Meantime, here is a clip of me playing with
some friends on national TV here in Oz.
It only lasts 90 seconds, so at least it's
short and (hopefully) sweet.
The show is the Australian Broadcasting
Commissions music quiz show 'Spicks and Specks' and we were
commissioned to perform a song written by a staff member that
followed up on a quiz question about John Lennon's skiffle band,
the 'Quarrymen', in which Lennon lost his temper with the washboard
player and broke the thing over his head.
Evidently he bought the guy a supermarket
on one of the Channel islands in later years to regain some karma.
We were given the words and we set them to
the old 'Mama don't allow..' changes.
I get a solo, which I take in my quasi-Gwen
Foster influenced style.
If I seem to be looking at my feet, that's
because I was reading the lyrics attached to the foldback speaker.
Click on this link:http://www.abc.net.au/
iview/# and go to the 'Spicks and Specks' Episode 21 bit at the
bottom left side.
We appear in the last couple of minutes of
the show.
Hoping all are well in harp-l land,
Rick Dempster
