Re: [Harp-L] Chromatic Harp_L?

Very well said. I have learned a lot from just reading all of the post that are written about everything.
If in not interested I just delete that topic.
I love the blues, can't play it for a hill of beans. Mostly play rock ( Open Mic )
Now one of the accustic guy comes over to learn how to play the blues on his guitar.
This is how I see Harp - L.
You see, you read, you like, you try, you enjoy.

I would love to understand more about the chrom and the differance from the diatonic.

I seems the cost is hi on the chrom and there is a button. I know C Musslewhite, S Wonder both use the chrom. Richard Perkins who is on this list is teaching himself how to play the chrom.

Balderdash, I say!!!

There should definitely be a separate harp forum for every type of harp there is... Who needs cross-pollination of instruments and/or musical ideas and styles, genres, cultures, personal tastes or religious affiliation?? Not me, brother. I like what I like, and that's what I like.

We could each be safe and sound. We wouldn't have to face the challenges and rigors of accepting different ideas or musical tastes or cultural influences. Yep. A separate forum for everyone.

Lessee... here's a brief rundown of the great forums we could consider:
One for diatonic
One for chromatic (sub groups for 12-hole vs. 16-hole)
One for diatonic played chromatically
One for chromatic played diatonically
One for chord harp
One for bass harp
One for echo harp (octave harps considered on case-by-case basis)

One for minor tuned diatonic (with sub-groups for harmonic minor and harmonic minor)
One for diminished tuned harps (other tunings considered on case-by- case basis)
One for blues harp music
One for jazz harp music (with sub groups for chromatic, diatonic, chromatic/diatonic)
One for schmaltzy harp music (trios will be accepted on a case-by case basis)
One for Celtic harp (with sub-groups for paddy tuned/diatonic/ chromatic/special tuned echo harps a-la Donald Black etc)
One for devotional music (with sub-groups divided by major denominations of Christianity, and sub-sub groups for those playing each of these musical forms on diatonic vs. chromatic)
One for non-Christian devotional music (Hindu/Buddhist/Muslim/Jewish/ Chocolate Church, etc.)
One for harp amps (sub groups for tube amps/effects and solid state amps/effects)
One for overblow techniques
One for overdraw techniques
One for harp repair
One for three-draw reed issues
One for 10-draw reed intonation specialists.

Yesiree. Wouldn't it be great if we all had our own little forum to cozy up to? Well, maybe not, eh.

In case you didn't see the SARCASM in my post... I'd like to officially state here that I totally agree with Rob P. when he says:
"Harp-L is for Harmonica"....

Period. End of story.
Now, can't we just all get along? It's a big friendly harmonica world.
C'mon people... let's MINGLE!!

Chuck,

By saying this you are just contributing to the 'separation factor' and also implying that Harp-L is for Diatonic Harps....for that reason alone I would not join....it's just too many lists for me, I have limited time on email and Harp-l always has an answer to my questions.......

Harp-L is for Harmonica

There is absolutely no need to 'split' Harp-L you can have a full out Chromatic Discussion and there you go , no rules or banning etc........

PS...I know alot of SM's are here as their site is down, hope y'all are fine and your always welcome here in the free world!,-))))) (just a joke folks!)

All the best,
Rob Paparozzi

So now that all the smoke has cleared, is anyone else interested in starting
a email list serve, like Harp-L for chromatic harmonicas? Would you crom
players join? I think part of the problem is there isn't enough options, and
an email list serve could fill the gap.

I do think, however, that the only way it would be successful if it was
endorsed by Harp_L and SPAH.

I'd be willing to devote some time and maybe $$$ to get one started.
