Re: [Harp-L] Chromatic Harp_L?

Hi Chuck -

I'm not sure the smoke has fully cleared ;-).

I'm curious as to what new options you would offer. We already have this wonderful list serve called harp-l which does invite and carry a fair amount of chromatic posts. We already have the SlideMeister forum with its focus on chromatic-only content. There are other more general forums such as harptalk and HarmonicaSpace which for whatever reason don't seem to match the activity of either harp-l or slidemeister (which suggests to me that it's not necessarily easy to establish an online community).

Many fine chromatic players have already come forward to say they detest _any_ segregation between the types of harmonicas, and then you have folks like myself who enjoy the current options and don't see any real need for a new alternative.

If there were yet another active forum with a focus on chromatic, of course I'd join -- but the key word is "active". If you're serious, perhaps the first step would be to come up with a mission statement -- who is this list for, what is the gap it is trying to fill, what is the goal of the list, how is it distinguished from the current choices, etc... And then you need to deal with the nasty parts, how will it be governed and who will take the time to maintain it -- and if it isn't going to leverage a free hosting option (such as yahoo or google), who will pay for it over time.

Not trying to discourage the idea, but I don't personally see that there is a current need for another chromatic-focussed discussion list or forum, so I don't know how you would get folks to use it over the current options.

Just my 2 cents.....

- Slim.

So now that all the smoke has cleared, is anyone else interested in starting
a email list serve, like Harp-L for chromatic harmonicas? Would you crom
players join? I think part of the problem is there isn't enough options, and
an email list serve could fill the gap.

I do think, however, that the only way it would be successful if it was
endorsed by Harp_L and SPAH.

I'd be willing to devote some time and maybe $$$ to get one started.

Some times I wonder... "Why is that Frisbee getting bigger?"
Then it hits me...
