From Peter Golding
Hi Guys..Well here's my two pennyworth from London town!! You are hot on the trail of the best harp amp I ever found in the form of that twin elliptical speaker amp! (IMHO of course!)
I found mine thanks to a harp - L National recommendation and feel I should at least share the trail to Mark in NYC.( He sometimes does EBay too) I visited his treasure trove and by chance found an amazing beaten up 50s Gretch Electromatic Valco Twin Elliptical version at much less than the single speaker National on eBay etc..and for me twice as hot.. I got it back to uk fitted an alternative 240 volt transformer unit on the inside and a line out too.
It
looks vintage great and sounds
seriously deep n authentic..no pedals no nothing. mine does not even have the reverb which were fitted later but probably sounds better as less circuitry etc. I love the idea that the speakers are oval shape as originally designed to fit on the back shelf of caCadillacsven if it not true !! I confess for bigger band gigs or volume its not always suitable so I'm through the PA via a Low Z monitor amp and vocal mic.
Everyone to their own but apart from a 50s 3x10 tweed bandmaster with more punch which I had once these 15-20 watts amps really rock n jump the blues. As Mark told me National may be the brand you pay for but Valco is the thing and they also made amps for Gretch and several others. Oh I nearly forgot Mark's contact / marktova@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Trails !!
Best Regards/Peter

As
the old joke goes, slightly modified, we know what kind of musician you
are now we're just arguing price! On Ebay I found your harp amp today.
Item #320476862983. 1956 TWEED NATIONAL/ VALCO "TREMO~TONE" COLLECTOR
QLTY.
That collector quality part means that it is a "buy it Now" for $1,700. Glad I could help you find the amp of your dreams!

I've been on the hunt for a few months for either a
National Two by
Elliptical (mid '50's) or National TremoTone amp (both by Valco) for sale
with no luck to show for it. The tones these models are capable of are nuts
and I'm set on tracking one down (if you need a reference; Dennis O always
brings the Two by Elliptical with him to the SPAH conventions, it's the
little national with the dove on the grill). Anyone got any leads or
suggestions? Craigslist, Ebay and all the local N-ville stores haven't been
any help thus far.
Thanks a bunch,
HommertG
