[Harp-L] Galicia Symphony Orchestra review
"A concert of the Galicia Symphony Orchestra under the baton of
Enrique Diemecke, where the undisputed star was the American Robert
Bonfiglio harmonica."
Review
Harmonica America is the name adopted this year by the traditional
Kings concert of the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia. The Concerto for
Harmonica and Orchestra by Heitor Villa-Lobos opened the concert, the
last instrumental concerto (1955) by the author of the Bachianas
Brasileiras, with the musical performance and sound that Robert
Bonfiglio achieved throughout his entire interpretation, he wowed
audiences the Opera House. The different and very varied timbres,
his mouth and hands achieve or the phrasing and articulation are
wonderful tools that Iowa musician uses in the service of the score.
In the second part, Bonfiglio ended up becoming the star of the
evening from his spectacular start to the stage, shedding the top of
his coat to wear a black shirt of the Rolling Stones and braces that
gave an air of old rocker. After depositing his harmonics in a lectern
as he went to the microphone and asked 'Are you ready to rock
&roll;?'. Then, with a medley of Elvis Presley he made it plain that
he is known as the Paganini of the harmonica, and turned the concert
into a party in which public and musicians of GSO were active
participants, along with soloist and conductor.
