 mostly free form, but they do fall into a tight groove toward the end - 3:45 and beyond. Notice Chick Corea's body language at this point.

Y'want groove education? Dive into early P'Funk and, even better, drumming a la Africa - drum circle, percussion groups like King Sunny Ade. Also Mickey Hart (drummer from Greateful Dead) did a project or two on global drumming.
