An English sax player was asked by a member of the audience after a performance "How can you play so well when you're so drunk?". He replied "I practise drunk."

Also the late great blind New Orleans guitarist Snooks Eaglin who famously drove his band the Flamingos back from a gig one night as he was the only one sober enough.
