Hi Luciano
I'd never heard of this harp till you mentioned it but there's a review by
Pat Missin who said
"I found that all the overblows were quite easy to hit on this instrument
right out of the box with no adjustment."
http://www.patmissin.com/reviews/hering4.html
Which as he states himself goes against the commonly held belief that reeds
situated closer to the player helps in terms of OB playability. But then
i've found Sp20s to OB ok with a minimum of adjustment and you've got
recessed plates and therefore a bit more distance between the mouthpiece and
the reeds. Maybe it's an assumption based on a lot of people's perception
that the hohner Classic series - Sp20, MBs, GMs etc are better for playing
OBs than the MS harps which have got a tiny bit more of a gap between the
reeds and the mouthpiece - but then Sebastien Charlier used Cross Harps and
Meisterclasse - I think he might be using Seydels now - so he must have
liked them.
I thought that having reeds sited closer to the front meant it was better
for OBs because the angle of breath is more acute and also that you can get
more control on the reed but it could be that I'm totally wrong -
Harpology's a funny old business!
Cheers
Bill

Subject: [Harp-L] RK-20
Hi!!
Well, I am looking for some opinion...
I was wondering if the Hering´s RK-20 model is a good "overblower" harp...
I mean, if the reeds are closer to the mouth, as in Golden Melodies, we have
easier overblowing, right? The RK-20 has a mouthpiece and it makes the reeds
to be away from the edge of the harmonica. If you take it out, the overblow
notes become easier.
But, keeping the mouthpiece, is there a way to make this harmonica a better
overblower?
I mean, do you think that some harp models will never allow to overblow?
Thanks a lot!
Yours,
Luciano
