Re: [Harp-L] mic, or line out?

Hi, Rick

The best is BOTH - then the sound guy can mix them and choose what sounds best. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Mic'ing gets ALL of the mic'd speaker's breakup along with everything else, but also picks up stage noise and the location of the mic is critical - short moves change the tone a lot. Line-outs driven from the speaker circuit have all the electronics' color and SOME of the speaker's as well (because the output transformer and speaker coil are inductive loads and reflect speaker loads back and forth.) The sound guy I work with most LOVES the line-out - great tone that mixes with what the amp is putting out well, and much easier to manage.

Subject: [Harp-L] mic, or line out?

I have a moderate powered small amp with a harp specific weber speaker which I'm very pleased with the tone of. I prefer to mic it to get some of my sound "out front" thru the pa, even in smaller venues. Of course , I have total control of my amp, and the mature players I'm with understand that amplifying harp is a different "animal" and allow me great lattitude in adjusting my channel(s) at the board. I also have the capability to mic and line out, however, I prefer just to mic. I'm curious tho, given an A-B situation, what most people prefer--line out, or mic?
