Dave Minson asked:
Can anyone tell me how I might get to some of those threads discussing attaching reeds to reed plates with screws, sizes, sources, etc? I tried to search the archives and came up blank. Thanks.

Dave, I meant to mention that I prefer tapping the reedplates as Vern
described both for the simplicity and also because nuts can cause
clearance problems with some coverplates. Grinding the extra length of
the screws down close to the (tapped) reedplate yields a very clean
solution with little or no clearance issues. You have to be careful
though, as one slip of the Dremel tool can carve of a reedplate very
quickly. As always, practice on some junker reedplates first.
Another tip. When you tighten the screws down the reed tends to turn
with the screw and rotate off-center with respect to the reed slot. I
find that with a little practice you can put those stainless steel
security strips to another good use. It's a bit of a juggling act
(that's why you need a little practice), but holding one of those strips
between the reed and the slot edge (on the clockwise side of the reed)
can hold the reed in place as you tighten the screw. Try it and you'll
see what I mean.
