[Harp-L] Junior Wells and The Aces Live in Boston 1966

Just caught this review this morning. New release and now on my Christmas
list! Maybe Santa Krantz will see this post!!!!!

This recently unearthed mix of harmonica-driven Chicago-blues standards and
then-contemporary tunes, recorded during a club date nearly 45 years ago,
has lost little of its power to make bodies shake and
quake<http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/Events+and+Awards/In-depth+Coverage/Haiti+Earthquake>.
Although Wells, a recent sideman for Muddy
Waters<http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/Muddy+Waters>,
was courting a young audience that was embracing sweet soul and leaning
toward funk, he chose as his backing band The Aces, with whom he launched
his career in the early 1950s. Their hard-edge sound (especially the
drumming of Fred Below) is timeless and uncompromising, Wells' harp runs are
frequently thrilling, and the patrons didn't seem to have any problem
getting with the program. The sound quality is slightly less than optimal,
and a lot of between-song chatter is included, but that mostly enhances the
you-are-there feeling. — Jerry Shriver
