[Harp-L] Re: Harp-L Digest, Vol 84, Issue 62
ÂOkay,
I have been reading this and listened to the music files (some large)
and DON'T have a scope software yet to look at that so those are my
limitations. That is not what I am about to go off on and I do mean
go off.
SCIENCE PROVES NOTHING. GOOD QUALITY SCIENCE TESTS ALL THINGS. Now
that is out of my system let me explain.
A hypothesis is an idea that the investigator wish to test and
disprove. Why? So that the information maybe further refined as to
where a theorem or law holds true and where it does not. This is why
the OLD law of gravity is no longer used by most modern science due to
the fact that there are exceptions to it (Super conductors and
magnets). This test was not available when the law was accepted but
has now caused a need to change the law.
In the free reed family there is still a lot of room for research and
there are folks in acoustical sciences that are researching it due to
very important reasons. Cantilever beam in a structure can vibrate.
This is a known fact, which has some very dangerous problems attached.
Free reed musical instruments can be seen and tested in fashions very
similarly which helps in their research. Most of it does not help in
ours though some of it is interesting.
While access to the data is still limited (do to NO blame of the
researchers), we will have the ability to look at the data in full in
short time according to Brenden and Vern and I have no reason no to
believe them. At which point where you put your sig' fig' is up to you
and we can either come to an agreement on the results or an agreement
to try to set up a better test, with which to examine what if any
changes there are between combs and what if any perceived difference
others can observe. One test does NOT a definitive answer make. This
is unfortunately a truism in science that it MUST be repeatable.
Now while the idea of trying this test at the NHL AGM this year is
not a real possiblity. It is something for further thought and study.
