Re: [Harp-L] Similarities between harp and anglo concertina

I do the same thing, even if I play chromatic button accordion, where it's the same note regardless of bellow direction. I have to remember to let my arms do the breathing and get my lungs on an independent track. When Rick Epping took up concertina, he delibrately chose one that had buton and ai patters that were completely independent of the harmonica, so he got an English concertina (different from Anglo despite what the similar name suggests).
Playing squeezeboxes can be a lot of fun. It kind of puts the harmonica into a format with more bass notes and a different sound, especially if you have different reed combinations to play with (tremolo, upper and lower octaves).

Why not learn one instrument properly shout the neighbours? Cos I like to mess about with new things. Cos my hay fever makes harp difficult two months of the year.  Anyway, the initial box was unplayable. I've just bought a better one with buttons that work. Anyone have experience of playing anglo concertina and harmonica, and have anything interesting to report?

Yes. When playing my Cajun accordion, I find myself breathing in and out (diatonic style) in direct sequence with the buttons I am pushing. If I go too fast, I hyperventilate. Btw, it's Richter tuned.
