Yeah, there are those 17 blues grooves you  noted & more (waltz etc...).  
Great list for more  seasoned players but likely too much for a new player to 
deal with.   So if you're a beginner... the four blues styles or 'grooves' 
you need  to be most aware of are:
 
Shuffle
Rumba
Slow Blues
Swing
 
In my experience the shuffle is the most common in a jam situation,  
followed by the slow blues. The other two are also  called fairly often.  Become 
familiar with those  four & you'll be able to make sense of 90+ percent of 
what you are  likely to run into at a typical electric blues jam.
