A friend of mine works in a thrift shop. They got a silverface
Princeton Reverb in. It's missing the lower back panel and the speaker
was replaced with a 12" Rola Celestion G12-80. The baffleboard is glued
in which makes it a later model. Maybe mid to late 70's. Overall it's
in average condition. The front panel is dinged on the lower edge but
otherwise it's in good condition. No foot pedal switch. All RCA tubes
and they all work with the pre amp tubes being very quiet. No hum and
it sounds pretty good for an amp with a Celestion in it. So here's the
question, what's it worth? eBay prices range from high 6's to the mid
to low 4's. A lot of the silverface amps are not selling especially the
ones with a higher reserve. I don't need another amp but I wouldn't
mind one either. He works for a charity so I don't want to offer a
lowball price but neither do I want to spend more than I want for an amp
I don't need. Anyone have any guesses regarding what it's worth? I'd
sell the Celestion and replace the baffleboard and put a Weber in it.
Why guitar players just don't buy the Deluxe and leave Princetons alone
leaves me baffled. fjm
