To complete the sampling of pieces from the Alpine Wines solo gig on August 4, I've put three excerpts from my reggae song âYou Wonât Get Over Meâ on my website at:
http://www.hunterharp.com/from-the-alpine-wines-gig-you-wont-get-over-me/
These snips are all instrumental. The Zoom H4 recorder overloaded every time I began to sing that night, and I'm not about to drop that digitally distorted sound on anyone. If you like, you can make up your own lyrics and melody and sing along...
Excerpt 1 is the single-layer loop I played on harmonica to start this off. The harp is coming through an RP355 thatâs set up with a Matchless amp model and a low octave double. Itâs a very strong combined bass and rhythm sound--in fact, I'm not sure a bass guitar is really needed to make this complete.
Excerpt 2 is the basic loop with another harp layered on it, this one played through an RP355 patch with a Bassman amp model and a rotating speaker (Leslie) effect. Hammond organs are pretty widely used in Reggae, and I think this sound works well for the style.
Finally, Excerpt 3 is the basic loop with a solo improvised on top. The solo is played through the vocal mic for a clean, unaffected (except for reverb) sound. Once youâve got the right stuff in the foundation, you can do a lot of things on top and make it work.
I hope everyone's enjoyed this series of recordings. Thanks to all who've stopped by to check it out.
Regards, Richard Hunter
