Hello,
I recently committed myself to learning my way around the
chromatic a lot better. I've been wood shedding faithfully and it's
been paying off(slowly :D) One thing that's really giving me
problems is the corners of my mouth are getting really sore. I've
been tongue blocking, and using a really deep embochure to get
octaves. Will this problem go away eventually,
Yes, but use bees wax lip balm in the corners till it does. I happen
to be Italian and Polish, but I didn't inherit my mother's sensitive
skin.
or should I change my embochure to relieve the pressure on the
corner of my mouths?
Only use enough pressure to get a good seal. No more than that. If
you're rubbing too much, you are standing too close to the harmonica.
Btw, I am predominantly a tongue blocker.
I'm using a Honer 12 hole with square holes, would an instrument
with round holes be better for this problem. Thank you in advance
for your advice.
Yes, I used to use the Suzuki Leghorn mouthpiece on my 270s. Now it
doesn't matter what I play. I keep some moustache whiskers at the
corners as a 'stand off' for the mouthpiece. But it's not that
necessary.
