Re: [Harp-L] Nashville number system explained

This thread is been really interesting, so thanks to everybody for their contributions and Phil especially for starting it and providing the link to the article. Especially interesting for me as a dyslexic who has trouble with charts and is wondering whether this system be might be of some help as symbols and pictoral representation might be better for my peculiar wiring and I'm sure i've come across a reference to it in some of the research i've been doing on this.

A couple of things in relation to vern's comments, for old blues harpsters I'd have thought the number system might work well as it's a fairly simple leap to relate the numbers to harp postions i.e. the 2 chord as the being the same in relation to the 1 as 3rd position is to 1st, the 5 to 2nd and the 4 to 12th etc but i note the point about Modulation.

So I would be interested to know what sort of things are used to indicate changes or particular types of movement I'm also confused as to how you could show a shift from major to relative minor - like on Autumn Leaves for example and also could you do a tune with lots of changes - All The Things You Are?

Thanks

Bill
