The vamp that makes up the A section of the piece is in a dorian mode; the changes are Im7-IV7 (Cm7 to F7 as Charlie plays it, in 3rd position on a Bb harp).
The 2-bar turnaround that marks the end of each chorus is a different story:
Cm7 Eb7 / Ab7 G7 /
These changes definitely take the piece out of a dorian mode. However, as a practical matter, the same harp in 3rd position works very well against these chords--probably because the sequence is short, and it very strongly pushes the harmony back towards C minor.
This piece is also killer on a chromatic harp, of course. What ballad isn't?
