[Harp-L] Charlie Leighton
Sorry to hear of his passing. I became acquainted with Charlie (or
Charley, I've seen it written both ways) thanks to Kim Field's book,
and the old Farrell's mail order service is where I got a tape of
"Yesterdays" which definitely has some great stuff, and of course
his terrific tone. I believe this was reissued with extra tracks on
CD although I don't own it. Also, Charlie made a contribution to the
slim number of Jazz harmonica books with is "Introduction to Jazz"
booklet and cassette. Five standards with melody line and a written-
out solo chorus, and one side of the tape is just the backing
keyboard track. Worth searching out also if it's something you'd be
interested in. Sorry, I have no idea where you'd find a copy at this
point as I believe this was self-published by the author. Mine is
"Volume 1" but I don't think there were any more volumes.
