The scariest but also most rewarding of musical experiences is when you try
something for the first time. Anything could happen, and it's rarely if ever
perfect. But it's fresh, and that is so exciting for the players, and the
audience.
I had the chance to record some of those first takes of new stuff recently,
with my friend Tim Edey. Tim is the most extraordinarily gifted musician
I've ever met. His ears are amazing, his memory is incredible, his groove is
NASTY, and his sheer inventiveness is jaw dropping.
