Re: [Harp-L] Re: Harmonica on the new Chase Credit Card Commercial

Who is this 3N037 guy? What have you done with Smokey Joe and his Flintstones modem... you know, the one where the teradactyl carves the binary code in a clay tablet and flies them back and forth to the internet server in downtown Bedrock?

I think I had just assumed it was Stevie... I only saw it once and I was probably coughing the whole time it was on ;) I'm gonna have to see it again.

Liz, maybe that's why they didn't use Stevie Wonder in the first place.

***smo-joe sez:  I didn't think it sounded like Stevie at all. Not spastic enough. Too 'Schmooooothe'. Didn't know it was Brendan though. Thought it was Will Galison.

Now, I will stand by what I said earlier... that was either Stevie Wonder his by god self or the best damn Stevie Wonder impression I ever heard.... Brendan, that was damn fine, buddy. You totally fooled me...

I don't know, Brendan...but merely getting paid a flat fee for one session
doesn't seem to be quite sufficient if what you did was for a commercial
which  will be played constantly on American Television (or was it Radio...did
Randy  say?)....

*** It has been playing on T.V. ...A couple times a day.

I remember when I worked in advertising. The people who did voiceovers
(including the musicians) were paid royalties for every airing of the
commercials and it was my job to ensure the money came in from the Clients and  was
sent out to the artists.  Rarely were flat fees paid for commercials  for
the Bigger corporations (such as banks, etc.)

*** Back in the early 60s, I did some stuff for American Motors, and Ralston Purina. I was paid a flat fee. It all depends on what you think you can get. More established players have agents and can get the royalties. In my case, I was tickled pink and would have done the sessions for free.  :)

 That was a long time
ago..before my legal work but it might be something work looking into.  Especially
if the public is perceiving the player to be Stevie  Wonder?

I have an idea that could be  me... I haven't heard the ad yet, but I
recently did a session for an  American producer on the Brand New Day track,
so it rings a bell.

I  was contacted three weeks ago via the e-Session website by a producer
called  Danny Blume, wanting a Stevie-style chrom track over his version of
Brand New  Day. I did two takes in my home studio in Canterbury UK and
emailed them to  him. He was happy, I got paid and that's the last I heard.

Can someone  send me an MP3 of the ad? I'd love to hear it.

Cheers,
