Re: [Harp-L] Iceman -- Bending

this is not hard to overcome. most of the problem is finding the confidence within yourself that you CAN do it. you don't have to have a good singing voice. it's a matter of finding the pitch from within.

it may even be worthwhile to spend a bit of time on this instead of playing harmonica. once you get it, you've got it for life, and it will accelerate your harmonica learning/playing on down the line.

Unfortunately many beginners like myself don't have the expertise, the
musical experience or the capability to 'sing the note' anywhere near precisely.

Iceman -- Unfortunately many beginners like myself don't have the expertise, the

I doubt that any musically inexperienced beginners learning to play harmonica
can sing an Ab or a C# or any other bent note on command, and hit it exactly the
same every time. (I know for sure I can't, as I'm not a singer or an experienced
musician.)

I find the Bendometer gives me instant visual feedback on the note I'm trying to
hit and from that (and your previous advice) I can feel where my tongue is and
then try to repeat it again and again. Maybe not as powerful but certainly much
more precise, as the computer generates exactly the same tone every time,
whereas my voice.......

Thanks again for your valuable suggestions!

<Re: Bendometer>

Certainly an option, but not as powerful as creating the note from within
yourself (sing the pitch then match it on the harmonica).

Incidentally for those who want to know whether they're hitting the correct
bends (or even the correct notes when playing a tune) I'd highly recommend the
Bendometer at http://www.harpsoft.com I use this program myself while
practising, and I find it VERY useful. (Usual disclaimer, just a satisfied
client etc.)
