Re: [Harp-L] Pricing by region (was email)

Pricing be region (as in US vs. UK) may be partly influenced by sales volume as Paul suggests. It may also be influenced by the higher actual costs of distribution in one region, due to labor costs, import duties, taxes, etc.

But there's another factor that can play a part: customary pricing expectations.

Marketers don't talk about this much, but if you train consumers in the UK or Canada or wherever to expect to pay a higher price "just because that's how it is" they may accept it in absence of the awareness of any alternatives or comparative information. Nowadays, however, it's much easier to comparison shop across regional and national boundaries, and consumers are less likely to accept what they are offered "just because." Maybe, even with shipping and taxes, you can get a better deal on that harmonica by buying it from the US or Japan or wherever. Regional distributors, if they are smart, will respond to this competition in positive ways.

So what's your point here Chris.

Suzuki will surely sell a gazillion more harps in the States than the U. K. I'm sure there's a marketing term for this phenomenon. Sounds like you're taking this personally.
Don't call  me surely!
