[Harp-L] Nat Reese and Phil Wiggins
As I posted several days ago, Nat Reese, the finest bluesman in West Virginia, was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame last Saturday night. It was a great evening...Charley McCoy [originally from Fayette County, West Virginia] co-hosted the event, and Phil Wiggins both presented Nat and performed with him. Some of you may know Nat from his years at Augusta Blues Week; others from his years performing with Howard Armstrong...Nat is a very interesting musician, steeped in both blues and swing music, and ia wonderful person, kind and generous; he is an 85 year old American original. West Virginia is not as well-known as it should be for its African-American tradition; black people came to the coalfields from the deep south for many of the same reasons they ventured further north to Chicago and Detroit, and Nat encapsulates that tradition.
