Where to go after 18 months playing? Two suggestions
1) Listen to a lot of music, harmonica and otherwise. Something will
really REALLY grab you and not let go, maybe something unexpected. Then,
within reason, whatever techniques you need to play that music are the
ones you learn. Two things that grabbed me early on were Hollywood Fats
and Andres Segoiva "A Bach Recital"
2) Learn to sing, just a bit. If you can manage a couple of blues
standards, just passably well, then you'll get more opportunities to
play. Many of us sing, some pretty well, the rest get by. A singer makes
a jam, the players are extra.
