I want to respond on the subject of contests, having recently helped put on a (very) small one in NM.
The town loved the contest. The spectators loved the contest. The festival organizers and local business people loved the contest. The interest it sparked in the instrument and the music was extremely cool! The happiness quotient was extremely high! We want to do it again! Yay!
As long as it stays happy, we'll keep doing it.
