[Harp-L] Stretch tuning
Stretch tuning is used in pianos (and other instruments) to get around
the inharmonicity of the strings. The harmonics created by strings do
not perfectly match those of the harmonic series and so you need to
adjust for this in a way that fools the ear, especially over the wide
range of the piano.
Free reeds do not have this problem as strings do and thus while I
beleive some people may use stretch tuning for various reasons, in
theory at least it should not be needed.
This has been discussed before, so there should be more detail in the
archives.
