Subject: Route 66 Harmonica Club Monthly Meeting and Jam - June 1, 2009

The Route 66 Harmonica Club of Tulsa will hold a short business meeting,
educational program and open mic jam starting at 6:00 PM, Monday, June 1,
2009 at The Western Country Diner, 1905 S. Sheridan Road, Tulsa, OK. There
will be a short business meeting starting at 6:00 PM. The educational
program will begin at approximately 6:15 PM. This month, in response to
many requests from our chromatic and country players, nationally known
harmonica teacher David Berntson will present a program titled "Diatonic
Blues 101 - 12 Bar Basics." David will give the class an introduction to
the rudiments of the 1,4,5 chord progression, 2nd position basics, and the
basics of the regular and quick change 12 bar blues. This is a condensed
version of some of the same material presented in David's highly successful
Tulsa Community College classes. A diatonic harmonica in the key of "C" is
necessary to take advantage of this instruction. Blues beginners are
encouraged to enroll in David's classes at TCC for more detailed instruction
or if that is not possible to purchase David Harp's "Instant Blues Harmonica
" which presents much of the same information in more detail.

At approximately 7:00 PM, the open mic jam will begin. While the genre' is
primarily diatonic blues, players of all types of harmonicas and all styles
of music are welcome. Sound equipment will be provided but players are
encouraged to bring their own mics and amps if they prefer to use them.
During the jam, anyone wanting to sell equipment will be allowed to announce
it, demonstrate it and allow anyone interested to try it out. Store reps,
factory reps and endorsers are welcome so long as they do not try to
monopolize the program. The jam does not end at a specific time and will
continue until everybody is "played out." You do not have to be a member of
the Route 66 Harmonica Club to attend or play.

The Western Country Diner offers a variety of diner food, soft drinks and
dessert items. Attendees are encouraged to show their appreciation for our
host by purchasing dinner or dessert. Our faithful guitar player, Robert
Smith, is a professional, working musician. Attendees are encouraged to
support him by making a small donation when the hat is passed and also by
attending his regular show at the Western Country Diner on Thursday
evenings.

We look forward to seeing you there.
