[Harp-L] Re: Cupping / Harp on cheek / Thumb



Different strokes for different folks. Certainly the right thumb plays a vital role here, it can be used to seal off the end of the harp in at least 2 different ways, but plenty of players also lay the upper channel openings against the cheek and I'm one of them. Doesn't mean you have to, just do what works for you. I also change the exact holding position while playing depending on embouchure and register. I certainly can't get the enclosure or the hand effects in the same way when puckering as with TB, though I can approximate to them in a way which might fool the unwary,
