The low notes are much easier to bend on a harmonica that has had the reed
slots thoroughly embossed. By that I mean, as close to the reed as possible
without interfering with the reed. My G Golden Melody is much more playable
on the low end than an untouched Bb Special 20 I have (granted it's from the
days of questionable tolerances).

In addition, dropping the tongue and jaw down and back allows for better
tone and bending the low notes.
