I wouldn't call Pat Metheny modern jazz. This term was coined
decades before metheny.
Years age metheny put out an album of standards in that style of
head solo.
He sounded to me more of student player than a pro.
As a guitarist I would not rank him with any of the greats like Joe
Pass, Pat Martino or
Jimmy Bruno.
He makes nice music and I've seen him live. I used to listen to as
Wichita Falls so does
Wichita Falls all the time.
