Re: [Harp-L] The Way Up - Pat Metheny Group inc Gregoire Maret

Hey Richard,

You've pretty accurately echoed how I feel about that album and Gregoire
Maret's integration into the music.

If you like that album, you'll probably love the harmonica playing (Gregoire
too) on Charlie Hunter's album Right Now Move. It's completely integrated
into the horn section, maybe a tiny bit more traditional in terms of
melody-solo form than The Way Up, but has first rate playing and superb
arrangements too.

Like yourself, if someone is asking for where harmonica is used equally with
other instruments in jazz nowadays, I point them towards one of those
albums.

If someone jokingly puts down the harmonica, my response has become "well,
Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Bill Evans, Charlie Hunter didn't seem to think
so". This rarely happens anyway where people give a hard time. If they're
not joking, you can add "I guess you think you know better than <the list
above>"!

All the best,
Eugene
