Screw-on connectors may be "ancient" but they remain the favorite for many of us.  I realize cables are hard to find though.

 

Mouser.com has what you need.  Just search these part numbers on their site.  Item 502-332A is probably what you want - female 1/4" plug adapter for regular instrument cables.

 

Screw-on adapter - 502-2501MP (male adapter for putting on a mic)
1/4" plug  adapter - 502-332A
Female screw-on terminator for making cables - 2501F
