Humming vs. whistling - nice metaphor.

Good advice - another way to look at it is:

There is an energy difference between whistling and humming - whistling
uses more concentrated force centered towards the mouth opening - usually
somewhat "puckered". Humming is more dispersed and a gentler outflow
of energy.

Puckering your lips isn't the best way to go - too much muscle tension and

tendency to blow/suck. You can find a nice relaxed embouchure without
puckering to get a single note.

Relax the lips, tip harmonica up 45 degrees or so, and use the Humming
style of breathing and low dispersed energy.

You've just got be be gentle with the lower holes and really tease out the

sound. Think exhale, inhale instead of blow, suck. Relax the lower jaw
and avoid trying to force air into or out of the holes. It seems
counter-intuitive at first but you'll get it second nature in no time as
long as
you relax the jaw and go easy. Think breathing from the diaphragm. It is an
issue for everybody at first. A lot of us, anyway!
