Re: [Harp-L] Subject: Re: Dr. Ross: The Harmonica Boss, good sound on video
The performance was a benefit for the Flint library, as I recall, and as you
can see from the second cameraman who keeps intruding into the first camera's
shot, the guys were not using toy cameras but the kind used by commerical TV
and probably the local public access unit of the Flint cable station. Both the
concert and the videotaping were carefully planned. Notice the boom mikes all
around.
A video tape was available from the library at the time. I have mine
somewhere in my archives.
Also, note that Doctor Ross appears to be playing his harmonica upside down.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Ross retired from a Flint auto plant -- back when such a thing still existed
in Flint. Proving once again that it's always been tough to earn a living with
a harp. Before that he served a couple of hitches in the Army. He made
several recordings over the years but just couldn't survive on the harp alone -- amd
he didn't have to pay any sidemen.
I don't know if the video ever was re-released on DVD.
I think the concert was on a Sunday, just another working day in the
newspaper biz, so I was unable to attend. But having the video was almost as good.
