These excuses are life.
I will never reach the stage in my musical journey when I abandon
life for the harmonica.
Years ago I went to see a friend's band at a local club. During the break
he said, "You should come up and play", and I told him I didn't have a
harmonica with me. The singer in the band said, "If I played something
that small I'd never go anywhere without one." I missed a chance to play
with a great band that night, but won't make that mistake again.
Now, I carry a harmonica in my pocket at all times. I've been in
countless situations where an opportunity to play (or practice) has
presented itself, and if I hadn't had a harmonica in my pocket I would
have missed it. That's the beauty of the harmonica, that it's small
enough to go anywhere with you.
An argument could be made that this is problematic for the chromatic, but
someday SOMEONE will develop a chromatic that's the size of a diatonic :-)
