' If you're determined to 'just do it', IMHO, the best thing you could
do is find a decent guitar player and jam with him/her acoustically as much
as possible before you ' go before a crowd. This accomplishes many
things with basic theory and tone development included.
This is the best advice anyone can give. Just remember that each guitar
player has their own style and it's good to jam with more than just one all
the time. Down the line after jamming with one person, you can be caught out
and surprised how different than you expect the band version of a song is.
It's all about listening. If your practiced licks don't work with the
situation, don't push the point.
