Wolf asked:
<Does anyone else use these stands as part of their harmonica
amplification setup? What are the advantages? What are the drawbacks?>
I've been using a tilt amp stand for the past 8 or 10 years and
really hate being without it. Personally I've found no disadvantages
at all, whether on large stages or small, but I don't play in loud
bands, so feedback is not an issue, and I always mike the amp. For me
it's great to be able to hear myself better and it's also great for
my bandmates because I'm not as loud as I'd need to be if I didn't
tilt it. Everyone can hear better that way.
Another big plus is the people sitting or standing directly in front
of you don't get deafened. I've seen punters in the front row holding
their ears to stop the blood spurting out, I mean to avoid the blast
of sound from an amp standing on the floor and pointing right at the
them (usually but not always belonging to a guitarist). They are
hearing the amp about 10 times louder than its owner, who is standing
above it.
And finally, front of house soundmen/women will love you too if you
tilt your amp, because it's then pointing at the ceiling and not
straight into the audience or straight at them, making it far easier
for them to mix, so like I said, personally I see no disadvantages
and use one all the time,
Steve
