[Harp-L] RE: Can anyone identify this mic

Hi Christelle.
You are correct in the sense that the mic in your picture is from the same family (the ElectroVoice family). The mic in the picture you linked to is an EV 623 made by ElectroVoice, licensed to Ampex. Ampex made tape recorders (just as Revere, TDM, Wilcox & Gay, Bell & Howell, Executone and a multitude of other companies made tape recorders, especially during the home recording craze of the 50s). ElectroVoice, Shure, Astatic, Turner and other American microphone companies made what is known as licensed goods for the tape recorder and PA system companies (Bogen, Stromberg Carlson, etc.), who did not manufacture their own microphones. For example, you often see Shure 55s, or Turner 22Xs with another brand name on the tag, when the mic is obviously a Turner 22 or a Shure 55. These are licensed goods. Believe me when I tell you that the mic in question is an EV 423 made for the Allied Knight electronics chain by ElectroVoice. I have several of them, and I have researched it. Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Ron Sunshine

"Hi everybody,

I'm not an expert but may be this is not an Electro Voice 423, but AMPEX the same family as the H1390
