If you own a few fake books -- and who doesn't -- the easiest way to find 
your way around them is to check out the 7th string website:

http://www.seventhstring.co.uk/fbindex.html

All you do is type in the tune title and it tells you which book has the 
tune.

Far more efficient than thumbing through each individual book.
