[Harp-L] Loud Harps for Street

The loudest harp I have heard so far is Rick Eppings "Bunker Buster" (my
name - not his!)
This instrument is a sort of 'Hot Rod Harp' built on a Hohner Chromatic
'Chassis' with octave tuning (two reeds per hole).
In the top few holes where it is not really feasible to incorporate two
reeds an octave apart Rick used 'unison' - two reeds the same size. In an
Irish trad situation where amps are strictly a no!no! this weapon can even
put manners on the banjos.
Rick has I think two of these harps, but strictly for his own amusement. I
don't think he has any plans to market them as the amount of time and work
involved in making them would render the cost prohibitive. "Don't try to do
this at home kids" unless you are a master craftsman like Rick.
Rick thinks that Seydel may have produced something similar,(a blues harp
based on chromatic innards) but with tremolo tuning. I have been meaning to
contact Seydel to see if they do indeed make such an instrument and if so
whether they could be persuaded to supply it in octave tuning.
